Elon Musk's Starlink and Dubai's Elcome set to provide internet to the maritime industry

Starlink, a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and Dubai-based marine electronics company Elcome International have joined hands to provide internet services to the maritime sector.

Elcome has said that the company will equip its customers with advanced solutions that support the capabilities of Starlink. Elcome's logistics hubs in Dubai, Singapore and Spain would help to fulfil the orders.

According to Elcome, the company would connect vessels like merchant ships, oil rigs and luxury yachts to internet speeds that are up to 100 times faster than traditional satellite services. Elcome said in a statement that Starlink would help with the installation process in the maritime industry.

According to The National, Starlink would help the UAE (United Arab Emirates) to bring benefits to the maritime industry. Access to high-speed internet would be beneficial for the sector in the UAE.

Starlink is currently available in 45 countries, including Antarctica. Starlink has not yet revealed when the service will be available in the UAE.

Earlier, the British government revealed it was testing Starlink in order to provide high-speed internet connectivity in remote parts of the United Kingdom (UK).

Last year, Musk sent thousands of Starlink terminals to Ukraine after Russia invaded the country. SpaceX also installed around 100 Starlinks in the Islamic Republic of Iran after huge protests erupted in the country over the death of a young woman Mahsa Amini.

As per SpaceX's website, Starlink offers high-speed internet service to people through a constellation of over 2,000 tiny satellites orbiting above Earth. This year, SpaceX also plans to launch Starlink Version 2 satellites.

Musk has been in the limelight in recent days. Recently, Musk, the new CEO of Twitter, listed several changes in Twitter's user interface that would be introduced in February.

Musk purchased the social media company in October 2022.
